We publish analysis about money, technology, and regulation. Getting the facts right matters more than getting them first, and when we fail at that we want the record to show it.
How to report an error
Write to us through the Contact page. Please include the article title, the specific claim you believe is wrong, and a source if you have one. We read every message.
How we handle corrections
- Factual errors — a wrong figure, date, name, or attribution — are corrected in the article, with a dated note at the foot of the piece explaining what changed.
- Substantive changes that alter the conclusion of an article are marked in the same way, and the original claim is stated in the note rather than quietly deleted.
- Minor fixes — typography, formatting, a broken link — are made without a note.
- Updates that add new developments to a still-current story are labelled as updates with the date, not presented as if they were in the original.
What we will not do
We will not delete an article to make an error disappear, and we will not edit a claim out of the record without saying so. If a piece is wrong enough that it should not stand, we say why in its place.
Timing
We aim to respond to correction requests within a few days. Clear factual errors are fixed as soon as we can confirm them.
