Key Takeaways
- Marvell now targets about $20 billion of FY28 revenue, up about 67%.
- That implies about $3.67 billion in Q4 FY27, 16.5% above Q3’s guide.
- Then about 12.8% growth every quarter through FY28.
- The target rose from about $15B in three raises since March.
Marvell’s $20 billion target is a chain of quarters that must each beat the last by double digits. A rising staircase is a different claim from a steady trend.
What Did Marvell Say on October 6, 2026?
Marvell told investors it expects about $20 billion of total company revenue in fiscal 2028, which would be about 67% growth. CEO Matt Murphy said at the investor day: “We expect approximately $20 billion in total company revenue in FY28, representing about 67% year-over-year growth,” as quoted by Yahoo Finance.
The same report says Marvell had guided to $18 billion in August, while Bloomberg data showed Wall Street expecting $18.2 billion. The $20 billion figure is about 10% above that consensus.
Murphy also pointed to a total addressable AI market of about $400 billion by 2030. We did not open Marvell’s investor-day slides, so we rely on that report for both figures.

Marvell’s Path to $20B, Quarter by Quarter
Fiscal 2027 runs from early February 2026 to late January 2027. Two quarters are reported, one is guided, and the last is whatever is left after $20 billion divided by 1.67.
| Quarter | Revenue ($B) | Basis | vs prior quarter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 FY27 | 2.418 | Reported | n/a |
| Q2 FY27 | 2.739 | Reported | +13.3% |
| Q3 FY27 | 3.150 | Guide midpoint | +15.0% |
| Q4 FY27 | about 3.67 | Our derivation | +16.5% |
Q1 and Q2 are from Marvell’s May 27 and August 27 earnings releases. Q3 is the August 27 outlook of $3.150 billion, plus or minus 5%.
The Q4 row is ours. Divide $20 billion by 1.67 to get about $11.98 billion for FY27, then subtract the three quarters above ($8.307 billion). What remains is about $3.67 billion.
How Fast Must FY28 Grow After That?
At the Q4 FY27 level, annualized revenue is about $14.7 billion. Reaching $20 billion in FY28 means averaging about $5.0 billion a quarter, roughly 36% above that exit rate.
If growth were the same each quarter, it would need to be about 12.8%. Our check: $3.67 billion becomes about $4.14B, $4.67B, $5.27B and $5.94B, which sums to about $20.0 billion.
Real quarters will not be that smooth, so treat 12.8% as a yardstick, not a forecast. It tells you the size of the claim: Q2 grew 13.3% on Q1, and the target asks for about that pace to hold for most of two years.

What Has Pushed the Number Up?
Marvell’s own releases point to AI-related bookings. In May, Murphy cited demand for 800G and 1.6T optics, 51.2T Ethernet switches, scale-up optical products and custom XPU solutions as the reason for raising the outlook.
On August 27 he said Data Center revenue growth accelerated to 46% year over year and described “a significant acceleration in our Custom business beginning in the second half of fiscal 2027.”
The customers’ side of that bill is in our look at when AI capex pays back.
Part of FY27’s growth is bought. Marvell closed its Celestial AI and XConn acquisitions on February 2 and 10, 2026, and counts them from those dates. Our reading is that they sit in nearly all of FY27, so they matter less to the FY28 step than to FY27’s growth rate.
Two Lenses
Orders that keep arriving
Three raises in about seven months, each with specific product lines named, look like a supplier whose customers keep placing orders. The August release says bookings are “exceptionally robust.” On this view, the staircase is simply demand being counted as it shows up.
A planner reading this wants to believe it, because it means the build-out is real and the supply chain has work.
A staircase someone must keep climbing
Each raise resets the bar the next quarter must clear. A target that needs about 13% growth per quarter has little room for one soft quarter, and every raise before it was also a promise to repeat the pace.
An outside reader has no way to separate lasting demand from timing, such as a customer pulling orders forward. The revenue those customers must earn to justify the spending is a separate gap. We weigh the second view slightly higher until Q3 and Q4 are reported, because the Q4 step is implied, not disclosed.
How to Test Any “Raised Outlook”
- Write the new full-year target and its stated growth rate. Divide the target by one plus the growth rate to recover the current-year base.
- Subtract the quarters already reported and the guided quarter. What remains is the quarter the company has not yet explained.
- Compare that implied quarter with the guided one. A jump much larger than the recent sequential growth means the target depends on acceleration.
- Divide next year’s target by four, compare it with that implied exit quarter, and find the constant quarterly growth that connects them.
What Would Change Our View
If Marvell reports Q3 FY27 revenue below the bottom of its guided range, about $2.99 billion, the staircase reading gains weight. We would also revisit if Marvell publishes its own quarterly shape for FY28 and it is flatter than our constant-rate yardstick.
In the other direction, a Q4 outlook at or above $3.67 billion would confirm the implied step. That, not the headline $20 billion, is the number we would watch first.

FAQ
Q. Is $20 billion a forecast or a commitment?
A. Neither. It is management’s outlook, and Marvell’s releases carry forward-looking-statement warnings that actual results may differ.
Q. Where does the Q4 FY27 figure of $3.67 billion come from?
A. We derived it. $20 billion divided by 1.67 gives about $11.98 billion for FY27, minus Q1, Q2 and the Q3 guide midpoint. Marvell has not published a Q4 figure.
Q. Does this tell us how much comes from custom chips versus optics?
A. No. We could not open Marvell’s investor-day slides, so we do not give a split by product line. The releases name both groups as drivers.
